Parkinson’s Disease

It is a neurological disease caused by the deficiency of a chemical substance called dopamine, which has an important role in the control of movement in the body. This insidious and slowly progressing disease is usually seen in people aged 50 and over. It manifests itself with symptoms such as slowing down of movements, trembling in the hands, difficulty in moving, leaning forward of the body, and dullness in facial expression. Diagnosis is made by neurological examination. It requires a long-term drug therapy. With the right treatment and regular follow-up, it is possible to treat patients by keeping their quality of life at a certain level for years.

Alzheimer’s Disease 

It is a disease that usually occurs at the age of 60 and above, and causes deterioration of daily functions in mental and social abilities as a result of deterioration of healthy brain tissue for unknown reasons. At the age of 60, the incidence of Alzheimer’s is around 10%. At the age of 80, the incidence is 50%. Forgetfulness that affects daily life, difficulty in speaking and writing, difficulty in finding words, difficulty in concentration, confusion about time and place are among the main symptoms of the disease. Although there is no definitive treatment, various drugs and behavioral treatments are used in order to increase the quality of life of the patient and to cope with the emerging psychological problems early.
